Specialist Liners & Advanced Material Options

Silflex has the in-house capability to incorporate a range of specialist liners into our hose constructions.

Silflex has the in-house capability to incorporate a range of specialist liners into our hose constructions. This transforms standard silicone products into highly engineered solutions for our customers’ more challenging environments. These liners considerably prolong the performance of our hoses - making them ideally suited for oil, fuel, chemical, hygienic, and high-temperature applications.

These liner options can be applied across the full Silflex range, including standard hoses, turbocharger/CAC systems, and fully bespoke components.

Specialist Silicone

Silflex offers a comprehensive portfolio of customised silicone compounds that are engineered to meet highly specific industry standards. These specialist silicones extend the performance envelope of standard materials, supporting applications that demand extreme temperatures, tight fire-safety regulations or high standards of hygiene.

Available specialist compounds

  • High-temperature formulations: Suitable for continuous high-heat applications such as turbocharger systems, industrial machinery, and thermal-management circuits.

  • Fire-retardant silicone tested to BS 6853: Suitable for rail, mass transit, and other safety-critical applications where low smoke, low toxicity, and flame resistance are required.

  • Food & Drug approved materials: FDA, EP, and BfR compliant for use in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical applications, providing safe contact with consumable or sterile products.

  • Water Council approved materials: Ideal for potable water applications where material purity certification is required.

Specialist materials: Performance beyond standard silicone

By combining these advanced liners and specialist compounds, Silflex engineers hose solutions that exceed standard performance benchmarks. Whether handling aggressive chemicals, high-octane fuels, sterile media, or operating in regulated environments, our materials ensure:

  • Longer service life

  • Greater reliability under extreme conditions

  • Compliance with industry-specific standards

  • Reduced contamination and permeation risk

  • Performance tailored to each application

Silflex’s specialist range allows you to specify the exact material solution your environment demands.

Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) Liner

Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) has been engineered for use in environments where conventional silicone would degrade. With a combination of the flexibility of silicone and the chemical resistance of fluorinated elastomers, it has considerable durability in aggressive, harsh conditions. Applications with these requirements, where hoses are faced with exposure to oils, fuels, vapors, and solvents, or contaminants of any kind-which require material stability-are perfect for this material.

Key Advantages

  • Excellent fuel and solvent resistance
FVMQ resists swelling, permeation, and material breakdown when in contact with petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, aromatic hydrocarbons, and industrial solvents.

  • Performs well at low temperatures
Maintains flexibility and mechanical strength in cold environments where other materials become brittle.

  • Ideal for automotive, aerospace, and industrial systems
Commonly used in turbo systems, aviation fuel handling, chemical processing, and any application where consistent performance under chemical exposure is essential.

FKM/Viton Profuel Liner

The FKM/Viton Profuel Liner is Silflex’s advanced solution for fuel and oil applications where both permeation resistance and long service life are critical. Developed specifically with the needs of modern engines and fuel systems, it provides a robust internal barrier without sacrificing the flexibility and heat resistance of silicone.

Key Benefits

  • Low-permeation design minimises fuel vapor loss and prevents the contamination of surrounding components or systems, important for today’s environmental and efficiency standards.
  • Applicable to Gasoline, Diesel, Biodiesel, and Lubricating Oil and engineered to resist long-term exposure to a broad spectrum of modern and alternative fuels.
  • Ideal for turbo, fuel system, and high-performance applications

Performs reliably under the elevated temperatures, vibration, and pressure cycles common to performance engines, commercial vehicles, and industrial power units.

Silgiene® (VMQ) Liner

Silgiene® is a sterile, platinum-cured VMQ liner for applications where hygiene and purity are paramount and regulatory compliance is necessary. Its ultra-smooth bore minimises the risk of contamination and makes it suitable for transferring sensitive media in controlled environments. Silgiene® also can be used with hydrogen fuel systems because of its stability and clean-material profile.

Key benefits

  • USP Class VI approved: Meets stringent biocompatibility and extractables criteria for pharmaceutical, biotech, and hygienic applications.

  • Smooth bore for contamination-free flow: Minimises the particle retention and provides sterile processing, CIP/SIP systems, and clean transfer lines.

  • Suitable for clean-media processing and hydrogen systems: Ideally used in food and beverage processing, biotech and lab systems, hydrogen transfer, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, where high purity and material stability are required.
